There is currently a global shortage of coconuts. Coconut trees typically produce for around 30 years, and it is estimated that 90% of farms in Asia are nearing the end of their life cycle with minimal replanting efforts. Replanting requires farmers to remove old trees, treat the land, and wait 3-4 years for new trees to start producing coconuts. Without government subsidies, many farmers are turning to livestock or other means of livelihood.
